Sonya Natanzon

Sonya Natanzon serves as Vice President of Software Engineering at HopeScan Initiative, where she leads the architecture of the internal systems that support HopeScan’s data work and, in time, its laboratory work and projects. She works with Chief Innovation Officer Chris Gascon and Chief Data Scientist Jennifer Yen.
Sonya is a software architect and engineering leader with 20 years of experience building and scaling cloud software platforms in healthcare and life sciences. At Guardant Health she served as Senior Director and interim Vice President of Software Engineering, leading a 70-person organization through a leadership transition. There she grew adoption of the company’s digital ordering platform from 8 to 35 percent, delivered its first Epic EMR and Flatiron integrations, and established its first enterprise and platform architecture function. Her earlier career includes Heartflow, where she was Vice President of Engineering, and Genomic Health, where she rose from software development manager to integration solutions architect. She now advises health technology and life sciences companies as a fractional CTO.
Her work spans platform architecture, healthcare data pipelines and clinical workflows, EMR and EHR integration, and the interoperability standards HL7, FHIR and DICOM, under regulated frameworks including HIPAA, FDA and CLIA. She speaks on software architecture, Domain-Driven Design and Team Topologies at international conferences including QCon, O’Reilly Software Architecture and DDD Europe. Since 2022 she has volunteered with the Sequoia Union High School District in California, supporting students through career talks, mock interviews and engineering workshops.
Sonya holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
