Donor Privacy Policy

HopeScan Initiative, Inc. is committed to earning and keeping the trust of every donor. This Donor Privacy Policy describes how we handle information you provide when you make a gift. It follows the Donor Bill of Rights developed by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

Donor information we collect

When you donate, we collect the name, email address, and billing address you provide to our payment processor (Stripe). Stripe also collects the card or bank details required to complete the transaction; we never see or store your full card number. Stripe returns to HopeScan only what we need to acknowledge your gift and issue a tax receipt: your name, email, the amount, and the date.

How donor information is used

  • To process your donation and acknowledge it
  • To issue a tax receipt as required under IRS Section 170
  • To maintain donation records for at least seven years, as required by IRS recordkeeping rules
  • To send you occasional program updates and impact reports, if you have opted in

What we do not do

  • We do not sell, rent, trade, or exchange donor names, email addresses, or any other donor information with any third party — not for any amount of money and not for any other consideration
  • We do not share our donor list with other nonprofits, advocacy organizations, or commercial partners
  • We do not publish individual donor names or amounts without the donor’s explicit permission

Anonymous giving

You may make your donation anonymously by selecting that option when you give, or by emailing info@hopescan-initiative.org. Anonymous donors are never publicly identified.

Your choices

You can contact us at any time to:

  • Request a copy of the information we hold about your giving
  • Correct or update your information
  • Ask us to stop contacting you or to remove you from our donor communications
  • Request that your giving be anonymized in internal records (we will continue to meet IRS reporting obligations, but your name will not appear in impact reports or listings)

To make any of these requests, email info@hopescan-initiative.org. We will respond within 30 days.

Legal disclosures

We may disclose donor information if required by law, including IRS Form 990 reporting (which lists major donors on Schedule B; that schedule is not made public), or in response to a subpoena or other lawful process.
